Henry John Sylvester Stannard (1870-1951) and Lilian Stannard (1877-1944)
Henry John Sylvester Stannard and his sister Lilian were the children of Henry Stannard (d. 1920), a sporting painter. Many other members of their family were also artists. Henry John Sylvester Stannard studied at the South Kensington School of Art, winning an art teacher's diploma at the age of sixteen and was elected R.B.A. in 1896. Lilian became a celebrated painter of English gardens. She showed at the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours.
