Each painted with trelliswork, flowers and chain links, the curved top rails flanked by stiles headed by carved roundels, one seat rail stamped GGG underneath, another stamped twice W, minor refreshment to decoration (6)

Lot Essay

A set of eight chairs with the same tapering, waisted stile topped by a roundel, one seat rail impressed with journeyman's stamp GGG, another stamped W, was sold Christie's, London, 25 June 1987, lot 147. Those chairs were from the workshop of John Gee (fl. 1779-1824), of Wardour Street, London, who from 1803 was 'Chairmaker and Turner to his Majesty' [George III].
