Edo period (19th century), signed Toyo and with kakihan
Decorated in red, gold, silver and black togidashi after a woodcut by Katsukawa Shunsho depicting the actor under his new name of Ichikawa Danjuro V in the "Shibaraku" (Wait a minute!) scene, inscribed on the reverse Shunsho ga, all against a kinji ground, the interior cases lacquered with gold Ichikawa crests on a black ground; with a related kagamibuta netsuke with ivory bowl, fitted with a mixed-metal plate decorated in colored inlay of shakudo, gold, copper and shibuichi and incised details with a similar portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro V, signed on the reverse of the plate Mitsumasa (Goto Mitsumasa; 1836-?) and with cursive monogram (kao); with bead ojime
