Meiji period (late 19th century), with signature Zeshin
The rounded, rectangular tray decorated on the surface in gold, brown and silver low-relief takamaki-e with a peeled chestnut and branch; the ground of subtly textured lacquer simulating the aged patina of metal
5 1/8 x 6 1/8 x 1½in. (12.9 x 15.5 x 4.8cm.)
With wood box inscribed Kuri maki-e kashiki (lacquered sweet tray with chestnut), inscribed Shibata Zeshin saku on underside of lid, signed Ryushin kan (certified by Ryushin) and sealed Ryushin
