A GILT PARADE PARTIZAN
LATE 17TH EARLY 18TH CENTURY
With short tapering double-edged blade, the lower part of the head decorated in low relief on one side with a vignette of a rampant lion at the base of the blade and a central crowned figure holding a baton, and on the other side with a vignette of an armoured arm holding a sword at the base of the blade and a central figure of a warrior, all against a stippled ground, the remainder decorated with scrollwork and two pierced panels of trelliswork, the whole head gilt, tapering cylindrical turned socket, and two side-straps, on later wooden shaft The head - 12 7/8 in. (32.6 cm.)
