Lot Essay

Le buste de Caracalla (188-217) s'inspire de la célèbre sculpture antique de la collection Farnèse conservée au musée de Naples. Oeuvre parfois qualifiée de "dernier soupir de la sculpture romaine", la tête détournée au regard menaçant de l'empereur était censée rappeller la brutalité du court règne de Caracalla.
