Lot Essay

Wang Yachen arrived in the United States around 1947 and taught at Yale, Harvard, and Columbia Universities. A popular teacher, he taught Chinese painting and culture in New York for more than thirty years.
This painting and the following two, lots 1313 and 1314, by Wang Yachen were given by the artist to Dr. Lingsun Chu, who was born in Shanghai in 1908. Dr. Chu was a well-regarded medical doctor who pioneered the use of acupuncture in New York begining in 1972.
