AN ACHAEMENID SILVER SPOON
CIRCA 4TH CENTURY B.C.
The oval bowl with flanged sides, the handle shaft with duck head attached to the bowl, with patterned bill, detailed feathers around its head and neck, a triple banded collar behind leading to the figure of a leaping lion, his finely detailed forepaws stretched out in front, hind legs stretched out behind, his long tail extending along the top of the shaft, his head alert with thick cross-hatched mane, his mouth open, the shaft looped up at the end and terminating in the head of a griffin, with alert ears, finely detailed facial features and feathered neck, an incised crested mane running down its back
