Likely from Thrace or Northern Greece, this phiale has a similar decorative scheme to one from the Rogozen Treasure, now in the National Museum of History, Sophia, inv. no. 22302. Cf. I. Marazov (ed.), Ancient Gold: The Wealth of the Thracians, Treasures from the Republic of Bulgaria, Sofia, 1998, no. 79, pp. 150-1. Similar phiale have been found in Sindos, Chalcidice, Vergina and Cozany in Northern Greece. These vessels are part of a well-documented archaeological sequence that dates them to 500 B.C.
