Lot Essay

Smith-Dorrien, the compilor of the album, was a midshipman on HMS Galatea on HRH Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh's cruise around the world, and a sub lieutenant on HMS Serapis which took Edward Prince of Wales to India in 1875. The album includes important early photographs of Circular Quay and environs, Sydney, and rare early views of Perth, western Australia.
