Lot Essay

The English writer and adventurer Albert Richard Smith had long harboured an ambition to reach the summit of Mont Blanc, and after several unsuccessful attempts whist studying medicine in Paris, he finally realized his dream on the 13th August 1851. On his return from France he gave a hugely successful and also very lucrative series of lectures which were put on at the Egyptian Hall in Piccadilly, London. This fan would have served as a program and useful reference during Smith's lecture.
