SAFAVID IRAN, 18TH CENTURY
The rectangular panel embroidered with large cusped floral palmette containing a circular rosette surrounded by radiating tulips, the central palmette surrounded by a diamond-shaped lattice studded with floral blooms at intersection points and containing alternating blue and pink floral bouquets, the spandrels with stylised floral blooms and confronted peacocks, set inside a wide margin of scrolling flowering vine bordered on both sides by thinner bands of scrolling flowers, each section set inside bands of silver-thread strapwork, all set on gold-thread ground with small diamond-shaped lattice pattern
