OTTOMAN TURKEY, DATED AH 1142/1729-30 AD
Of two separate sections, the lower with flaring banded skirt narrowing to the waist and flaring out to the square section rim, an inscription and date just below waist on hatched ground studded with floral rosettes, the upper section with two well-rounded bosses interspersed on tubular neck with a flaring banded truncated conical mouth above, most of tinning remaining on upper section

Lot Essay

This candlestick is engraved with the following inscription, waqf çörekci al-haji ahmad camii-i kebir sana 1142, 'Pious endowment of the cake maker (çörekci), al-Haji Ahmad, the Grand Mosque, year 1141 (1729-30)'.
