AN OTTOMAN JADE HILTED DAGGER (KHANJAR)
TURKEY, 18TH CENTURY
The double-edged slightly curving watered steel blade with pronounced medial ridge and gold damascened interlacing arabesque at forte, the waisted jadeite hilt elegantly faceted and with silver filigree spine with inset hardstone at the top, each of the jadeite faces with three silver rosette pins, those on the front with turquoise centres, in silver sheath with filigree cusping at the top and a palmette at the bottom beneath an stylised floral spray, with attachment loop and long silver chain with beryl bead, remains of gilding
