Lot Essay

A student of L'Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts, François-Raoul Larche debuted his work at the Société des Artistes Français in 1881 and exhibited his work regularly at the Paris Salon between 1884 and 1911. Though perhaps best known for his smaller-scale objets d'art, such as lots 94 and 95, the artist received a gold medal for sculpture at the 1900 Exposition Universelle, where he exhibited an explosive figural group entitled La tempête et ses nuées.
