Lot Essay

Another example of Linke's index number 86 was sold Sotheby's, New York, 22 April 2010, lot 448 ($10,000). Examples of this whimsical clock appear in Linke's Place Vendôme showroom circa 1903 and among the firm's numerous clichés (illustrated C. Payne, François Linke: The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, Woodbridge, 2003, pp. 160 & 487, respectively).
