In Renaissance style, shaped circular, the inner border applied with four canopied shaped cartouches, each applied with a finely enamelled figure of one of the Trojan heroes, Nestor, Patrocles, Menelaus and Ajax enamelled in white, green, blue, purple and pale blue and between with military trophies with canopies above, the outer border with alternating male and female portrait medallions and with scrolls between, the rock-crystal plaques engraved with foliate scrolls, marked on reverse and foot with maker's mark on center frame

Lot Essay

Hermann Ratzersdorfer was one of the leading Viennese goldsmiths of the second half of the 19th century. Specializing in original designs with rock crystal and enamels in the 16th and 17th-century style, Ratzersdorfer's work received international recognition, including prize medals at the international exhibitions in London (1851), Paris (1855) and Vienna (1873).
