Lot Essay

'Always illustrating the social issues of his generation in his paintings, Adel Younesi applies the symbols of daily life to portray an uncanny yet familiar world. In limbo is the recent series by the artist, in which men and women are portrayed in a dream- like world. The old cars in these paintings are an allusion to the past. The artist believes that just like these inefficient cars, the people illustrated have also been stranded in a dimension of time within an unknown space. However, using the power of their imagination and by creating a romantic and dramatic ambiance in which sadness and happiness coexist, they have continued to live in harmony with one another. Younesi's canvases break the boundaries of reality and are a journey into a timeless world. The artist's love for nature has enabled him to portray an imaginary and poetic world, which he believes allows him to come to terms with his own identity'.
