Lot Essay

The description accompanying the illustration reads as: "the pola-dotted bright, bright red beachbloomer suit made of silk surah, held to shape by white knitted bands. There is,a lso, a sun protective coat of white piqué. both by Kenneth Tischler. Gunther Jaeckel. Item: the bright plaid cotton balloon pants with a strapless yellow linen halter and broad palid scarf designed by Claire McCardell. Lord & Taylor. Opposite page, parakeet-colored overalls mean to be rolled up, made by hand-blocked upholstery material, plus a wide scarf to double as a beach carry-all worn with a red Rodier wool jersey T-shirt. All by Anna Licht. Jay Thorpe. And in close-up, the periwinkle blue silk shatung bloomer-suit, draped from one shoulder like a chiton, designed by Calire McCardell. Lord & Taylor; Halle Brothers Cleveland."
