Lot Essay

The present plate was made in support of John Fortescue and John Harris for the election to the Barnstaple constituency in Devon, 31 May 1754. The election was contended between three candidates, Harris received 217 votes, George R. Amgard received 206 and Fortescue received 154 votes.
