Lot Essay

The present "Maxi Oval" model fitted with a pink gold case, burgundy numerals and a ruby cabochon-set crown is believed to be a unique example made by special request.

The "Maxi Oval" wristwatch and its daring design pays tribute to the swinging London of the 60s. Launched by Cartier London in the late 1960s, it differs from its Cartier New York "Large Oval" counterpart by the slender case and finer numerals.

Examples of both models are described and illustrated in The Cartier Collection - Timepieces, Editions Flammarion, p. 456.
