The wood frame painted with ink and pigments with a horse and inscribed with the commissioner's name Takon Rojiro, dated Bunka juyonnen [an auspicious day in 1817] and hinjo [frequently riding]

Lot Essay

From early times horses were donated to shrines, but later in the Edo Period Ema were given to represent the gift of a horse.
