Of champered square form with narrow neck and deep reddish-brown patination, with tomobako titled Shudo tsubo [Angular bronze vase], signed and sealed Shugoro (Hasuda Shugoro, b.1915)

Lot Essay

The artist Hasuda Shugoro was born in Kanazawa. He studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, was a member of the Nihon Geijutsuin [Japan Arts Academy], exhibited at the 5th Nitten in 1949, and subsequently won many prizes. He is considered to be one of the leading modernist artists working in bronze during the Post-War Period.
