Lot Essay

Ruth Bromberg (1921-2010) was the Director of Colnaghi's print department from 1983 - 86 and wrote the catalogue raisonne for the prints of Walter Sickert and the etchings of Antonio Canaletto. A personal friend of Auerbach's, from 1990 she sat nearly every Thursday, forming part of a weekly rotation of sitters for the artist.
