A printed pottery jug
printed to commemorate the Rainhill Trials of 1829 on the Liverpool to Manchester railway, in purple with a locomotive pulling two coaches, the reverse with two engines before a tunnel below an indistinct insription, the rim with flowers and scroll border panels, the handle leaf-moulded -- 6 3/8in. (16.2cm.) high, 19th century (minor wear and staining)
