Churchill wrote to his mother on the same day from 'Camp Thika (half-way between Nairobi-Fort Hall)'. His having taken a stock of Colonial Office paper with him rather gives the lie to the supposedly unofficial nature of his African tour in late 1907. Churchill was to enlarge upon his plans for a harbour at Mombasa in the first chapter of My African Journey.
