CHURCHILL, Winston S. Typed letter signed to Robert Graves, 11 Morpeth Mansions, 26 May 1938, one page, 4to, one sentence lightly cancelled in brown ink (punch hole); with a secretarial letter, a letter with a facsimile signature and an autograph letter signed by Clementine Churchill, 17 January 1947, on a greetings card, 'Winston ... is always deeply interested, indeed engrossed in anything you write'.

A warm acknowledgement of a copy of Graves's historical novel Count Belisarius, a 'brilliant piece of work. You have "rolled back the time-curtains" in a magical way and made this strange epoch young again ... I delight also in the theological discussions which blend so amusingly with the easy morals'; the secretarial letter in 1942 communicates Churchill's request that this last phrase be removed if Graves uses the letter for publicity purposes.
