Lot Essay

According to the owner he acquired the collection of stormtrooper costume parts, along with other pieces of Star Wars related uniforms in 1993, from a fellow member of an amateur dramatics society. The gentleman, who worked as a pyro-technician on various productions at Elstree Studios, has confirmed that he acquired them from a friend who worked upon the Star Wars films. The owner has also provided colour photographs [not included] taken in 1993 depicting him and a friend as thrilled teenagers, trying on the costumes when they were first received. The other pieces received are clearly seen in these photographs.
Through the exuberance of youth and the excitement of wearing the costumes, some damage was innocently inflicted upon the components. Therefore the owner through time has made various, notable modifications to the suit, mainly replacing, repairing or mending fabric attachments, adding Velcro to certain sections, re-spraying several components, as well as removing tape from each piece which were annotated with specific film titles.
