16TH CENTURY WITH EXTENSIVE REPLACEMENTS, PARTICULARLY TO THE FRIEZE AND STRETCHER
With a rectangular top above a gadrooned frieze, the ends carved with grotesque masks and animal feet carved with similar masks, with later serpent-carved stretcher, stamped three times with black stencil 27034 to the rails

Lot Essay

The combination of grotesque masks, lion's paw feet and gadrooned frieze of this impressive table is also seen on a table from the Bardini Collection, attributed to Rome, illustrated in W. Odom, A History of Italian Furniture, New York, 1966, vol. I, p. 160, fig. 143.
