"I chose a simple composition for 'Face Off' with the background as minimal as the polar bear's natural habitat. Its domain is miles and miles of ice flo and Artic coast-white, blue , and grey. Tiny crystals of ice floating in the air mute a strong light source. The polar bear, coat yellowed by the years, confronts the viewer".
