A PAIR OF 54-BORE FLINTLOCK OFFICER'S PISTOLS
PROBABLY GERMAN OR AUSTRIAN, LATE 18TH EARLY 19TH CENTURY
With tapering twist sighted barrels each struck at the breech with a series of maker's marks and respectively numbered '1' and '2', plain tangs each incorporating a rear-sight of one standing and two folding leaves, plain flat bevelled locks each with stepped tail and roller, walnut full stocks each carved with a shell behind the barrel-tang and with swelling flat-sided chequered butt fitted with iron reinforcing plates and an iron aperture for a detachable shoulder-stock (one butt cracked through and repaired), set triggers (one at fault), iron mounts including trigger-guards each with acorn finial, and later bone-tipped ramrods (iron parts discoloured)
