In 1899 he began his training in Jersey before moving to the Lambeth School of Art, London in 1903, returning to the island in 1916. Blampied had a particular skill for rendering human and animal movement. He travelled in France, Spain, Belgium and Scotland in the 1920s and 1930s and it was said by his wife that his best Jersey work was done when he was away from the island. However, it was his homesickness that brought him back again in 1938. Living on the island during the Occupation, Blampied's paintings and sketches provide a significant record of this period in the island's history. Amongst his many exhibitions was a major show of his prints at the Print Club in Cleveland, Ohio, put together largely through the efforts of Harold J. Baily, a Blampied collector.
