Lot Essay

This representation of the Virgin and Child; the so called Sedes Sapientiae or Throne of Wisdom, first appeared in the early 13th century. For sculpture it was the dominant depiction of the Virgin and Child in Spain Catalonia, the Pyrinees and France.
