Lot Essay

This extremely finely carved figure of a Landsknecht is inscribed with the Dürer monogram and date 1526 on the naturalistic base. It is possible that this was made in the early 17th century inspired by the Revival of Durer prints and painting at the end of the sixteenth to the first half of the seventeenth century.
