PROPERTY OF THE DESCENDANTS OF THE EDWARD AND JOHN C. MOORE FAMILY
The following pieces of silver (lots 1-17 and 25) have descended in the Moore family. The family has been associated with Tiffany & Co. since John C. Moore, a well-known New York silversmith, became head of Tiffany's silver division in 1851. On John C. Moore's retirement he was succeeded by his son Edward C. Moore (1827-1891), who would become one of the major figures in the international Aesthetic Movement, and assumed his role as head of silver production at Tiffany. As head designer from 1873-1891, he promoted the Japanese and orientalist styles popular in the 1870s and 1880s. Edward C. Moore's grandson, John C. Moore (1864-1946), was president of Tiffany & Co. from 1907 to 1938, and served as chairman until his death.
