Lot Essay

Francois-Jacques Walsh de Serrant (1704-82) served as Secretary to the King of France 1751-63. His Irish father had settled at Saint Malo; A. Lebel explains that some pieces of the service display the swan crest, as here, and others a coronet (op cit, p. 235).
