Lot Essay

Very large, richly enameled jars were at the top of Chinese export production; the black bamboo on this example is an unusual and striking design feature. For pairs of the same form and date see the jars sold Christie's, London, 8 November 2005, lot 106; 19 March 2008, lot 676; and 4 November 2010, lot 235.
