Lot Essay

The box belonged to Mr. B. F. Oakeshott (1900-1988), and was presented to him on his transfer as Chief of Police from the Straits Settlements Police to the Federated Malay States Police in 1934. It was kept safe by the family amah during his internment by the Japanese in the Siam Road internment camp in Singapore during the war and re-presented to him on his release in 1945.
