Details
1997: Although, the flowering of the vine in 1997 was somewhat uneven, and the growing season followed this pattern as well, with an August that featured both high temperatures and a fair bit of rain. The best results were obtained by those growers who waited until the third week in September in order to maximize ripeness, and the top wines are fruity, fine and elegant with a soft acidity that encourages drinking over the mid-term.

Sale room notice
Please note that as pointed out in the catalogue, all bottles offered in this sale have come from the private cellar of Henri Jayer and are still on the original cork, and it is thus quite normal that there will be natural variation in the ullage of these bottles. As pointed out in the note on page 62 of our catalogue, The condition and drinkability of Burgundy is less affected by ullage than its equivalent from Bordeaux. For example, a 5 to 7 cm ullage in a 30-year-old Burgundy can be considered normal, indeed good for age, 3.5 to 4 cms excellent for age, even 7cm rarely a risk. Accordingly, we will announce via saleroom notice those bottles whose ullage is 3.5cm or greater. Absent a notice of this sort, the ullage can be considered to be 3cm or less.
Please note that lots 15, 31, and 38 are available in the auction room today for physical inspection. At the discretion of the buyer, the invoice for these wines may be settled immediately and the wines collected this evening. Normal shipping procedures are of course available for buyers not wishing to take advantage of this option.
Please note that the proprietor of the vines producing the wines in lots 1 5 was Henri Jayer, not Georges Jayer, despite the images on pages 20 and 21. Although Henri vinified the wines owned by his brothers during this period, these bottles for sale were produced by Henris own vines, and the labels have been changed by his descendants to reflect this.
