Comprising a mantel clock and a pair of six-light candelabra; CASE: of breakfront pediment outshape surmounted by a draped classical nymph, signed and dated 'H. Dumaige. 1873' DIAL: with ormolu hands and chapters, indistinctly signed 'H. HOUDEBINE FT DE BRONZES PARIS' MOVEMENT: twin barrel with strike on bell, stamped 'JAPY FRÈRES MED D'HONNEUR and numbered 3670, the candelabra en suite with draped classical nymphs supporting scrolled branches, one with ink inscription to the underside '23709 Houdebine July 22'

Lot Essay

Established in 1845 by Henri Houdebine, the Parisian bronzier Houdebine et Cie produced a wide variety of objects and sculptural works of the highest order. Houdebine participated in the major international exhibitions of the 19th early 20th centuries, showing clocks and garnitures inspired by the major revival styles prevalent at the time. An ormolu and white marble figural mantel clock by Houdebine sold Le Grand Goût - A Private European Collection, Christie's, London, 17 June 2009, lot 101 (£46,850).
