Lot Essay

The present pair of candlesticks most certainly derives from a design circa 1810 now in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris (ill. H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel, et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 326, fig. 5.1.7) while further related pairs include one illustrated Ibid, fig.5.1.6, and another illustrated in S. Faniel, Le XIXème Siècle Français, Paris, 1957, p. 133, no.4.
