A bronze figure of an elephant
Indonesia, Java, 9th/10th century
Naturalistically modeled standing on three legs with the fourth bent as if to take a step, the head tilted to the right with the tip of his trunk touching his knee, the face with short straight tusks, open mouth and powerful eyes flanked by wide ears, the base with an openwork scrolling motif and four axle holes for wheels, with an additional loop at the chest for a pull string
