Lot Essay

Described by Bharata (dated 2nd century BC to 2nd century AD) in his treatise on the performing arts, Svadhinapatika Nayika is one of the ashta nayika or "eight heroines," which represent the eight different types of relationships the romantic heronine (nayika) can have to her hero. In the present scene, the heroine is so admired by her husband as to have him in subjection, demonstrated by Krishna attending to Radha's toilette.
