A PAINTING FROM A RAGAMALA: GUNKARI RAGINI
CENTRAL INDIA, MALWA, circa 1700
A lady seated against a large gold bolster places flower garlands on a branch, opposite are four female musicians, two sitar players, a drummer and a singer, and behind the seated lady are four standing attendants each holding various offerings, set on a terrace between two tall turreted buildings, a lotus pond in foreground and formal gardens behind, all enclosed walls with forest outside with egrets perched in the trees, a dark-blue sky with yellow header and a devanagari inscription above, set inside red margins
