Lot Essay

The bust of the young Augustus is illustrated on page 31 of the 1911 Chiurazzi and De Angelis catalogue. The present bust was derived from the Augustus Primaporta, the original copy was modelled by Augustus Saint Gaudens in Rome in 1872-73. Cf. J. H.
