Lot Essay

Dr. Wittop Koning attributes a group of mortars made for persons in Krefeld to the German town of Krefeld near Venlo. All of these mortars have the same ornament. A mortar from the same workshop as the present lot is illustrated in Dr.D.A. Wittop Koning, Nederlandse Vijzels, Weert, 1989, p. 105, no. 153.
