A Dutch walnut and burr-walnut longcase clock with alarm
Lourens Duchesne, Amsterdam, third quarter 18th century
The case of typical form, the hood surmounted by three giltwood figural finials, the cast brass lenticle depicting The Rape of Europe. The engraved and silvered brass dial with silvered arched chapterring, signature scroll below XII signed Lourens Duchesne Amsterdam, to an enrgaved matted center with subsidiary seconds ring, alarm setting disc and sector for days of week and zodiac symbols, with silvered spandrels to the corners, surmounted by a painted and engraved silvered moonphase. The brass four pillar movement with Dutch strike on two bells and alarm mounted to the side; pendulum, two brass weights, winding key and doorkey
