Lot Essay
Alistair Grieve comments on Col and another small horizontal sculpture of 1972 entitled Col Development that they 'rest along the ground, without bases, like sections of vertebrae. From a thin upright plane, two rectangular plate or knuckles swell out at right angles. These are linked by a dipping 'col'. The spine is rough and granular but the flat sides of the rectangular knuckles are smooth and polished' (A. Grieve, The Sculpture of Robert Adams, London, 1992, pp. 125-126).
