FIRST FRENCH EDITION of the acts passed by the first United States Congress of 1789, including the first printing in French of the Bill of Rights, presumably the first printed appearance of the Bill outside the United States. The Bill of Rights was first published in the U.S. in the Journal of the Senate for the first session of Congress (1789), and shortly reprinted in the initial edition of the Acts of that Congress (in folio and octavo formats). This edition, published during the French Revolution, includes the new Constitution, the initial proposed amendments, and all of the first formative acts of the new government covering the judiciary, commerce, and the executive department.
