FIVE WESTERN ASIATIC CYLINDER SEALS
CIRCA 3RD-1ST MILLENNIUM B.C.
Including a Jemdet Nasr cream stone seal with a single stylised rosette, circa 3000 B.C.; a Mesopotamian lapis lazuli seal with two registers, the upper with the Imdugud bird grasping two horned animals, the lower with drinking scene of two seated figures holding straws, circa 2400-2200 B.C.; a Western Iranian pink stone seal with two dancing male figures, a smaller figure between, a winged lion facing a lion-headed standard behind, circa 2000-1600 B.C.; a south-west Iranian bitumen seal with central sacred tree flanked by two human-headed rampant bulls, a monkey in the field, a bird and inverted plant form the terminal, circa 1100-900 B.C.; and a Achaemenid banded agate barrel-shaped seal with a scorpion man in front of an incense altar, a star in the field, circa 500-350 B.C.
